Recreation
For those who love the sun, water, and fun, Crowley County is your kind of place, with two lakes providing abundant space for bird watching, boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing. Camping at these lakes can also offer the space necessary for quiet reflection and a hiatus from metropolitan living.
Lake Henry is located between Ordway and Sugar City, just one and a half miles north of Hwy 96 on Lane 20. lakehenryLake Meredith is located one mile south of Hwy 96 on Lane 21. Crowley County can also claim rights on two regularly stocked reservoirs, Ordway Reservoir, located two miles north of Ordway on Hwy 71, and the Olney Springs Reservoir, located just north of Olney Springs.
Parks with ample picnic areas and playground equipment provide plenty of space for quiet, relaxed family time, yet also offer tennis courts and miles of biking and jogging paths for those who can't stand still. Although Crowley County doesn't have its own golf course, there are three beautiful 9-hole courses within a 30-minute drive and three championship-style courses within an hour's drive.
Crowley County spectators love to support their school activities and sports programs. With an abundance of caring neighbors, the church and community groups are very active in local affairs. The local 4-H program has an outstanding support group centered around the county kids, as well as our youth in town. Proof of their support is evident in their annual Crowley County Days celebration. The weeklong affair encompasses the 4-H county fair and ends on Saturday with the parade and a huge barbecue held in Conestoga Park in Ordway. The event is always held in the last full week of July and has a 90+ year tradition.
