In the early 1900s irrigation water was diverted out of the Arkansas river and bumper crops of alfalfa, sugar beets, vegetables and fruits of all kinds were grown in record amounts. The Crowley County area was described in brochures as the "Garden of Eden". Four Towns sprang up with schools, churches, homes and factories.
